Passing your Practical Driving
Test...with confidence
You can take your practical driving test as
soon as you've passed your theory test.
As soon as you're ready for your practical
driving test...I'll book the test for you.
There's a couple of advantages here...I will
know your preferred dates and will make sure I'm available to
give you a lesson before the test and use of the car for your
test.
If you wish to book your test yourself
there's a couple of options you can use:
Booking by phone on:
0300 200
1122
You'll need your theory test certificate, my
ADI number and a payment card with you when you
phone.
You'll be asked when and where you'd like to
take the test. Shrewsbury test centre is best if you're
one of my students.
If you book the test yourself make sure you
tell me in plenty of time so I can make sure I'm available for
you.
Cost for the car driving test is:
£62.00 for weekdays and £75.00
for weekday evening and at
weekends.

Here's what you'll do in your
test
It's always best to arrive at the test centre
about 10 minutes before your test...you're able to relax and
prepare yourself mentally for the test.
Your lesson with me before the test will be
designed to give you just enough driving practise and to get
you in the right frame of mind so you're properly
prepared to take your test.
You'll need to show
your theory test pass certificate and you're provisional
license...so make sure you have them with
you...
Also, if you wear
contact lens or glasses...bring them with you.
If you don't you will fail the test and won't get a
refund.
Your examiner will introduce themself to
you at the start...check you papers and ask you to sign a
form saying the car you will be driving is insured.
I can be with you at this stage if you so
wish.
It's also possible a supervising examiner
will be present to examine the
examiner.
Once these formalities are over you'll
go with the examiner out to the car park.
The EYESITE
TEST comes next...
The examiner will ask you to read a
number plate... about 67 feet
(20.5m) away. If you can't read it you'll
fail the test. But, if there's any doubt, the examiner will
measure the distance to make sure it's correct.
You'll then go to the car and the examiner
will ask you questions about car safety and maintenance... See
the SHOW ME,
TELL ME section... HERE
Once you get into the car make sure you take
time to do your cockpit drill...adjust your seat, check your
mirrors, and put your seatbelt on.
Your examiner will note down details about
the car...to make sure it's taxed and will make a note of my
ADI number.
Your examiner will then tell you what is
expected of you during the test. After the briefing your
examiner will ask you to start the engine and drive
away.
The test usually lasts for about 40 minutes
and during that time your examiner will be watching what you do
and making a note of any mistakes you make.
It's important that you don't get
stressed out with your examiner. Approach your test
as you would a normal lesson and you'll be fine. You won't be
asked to do anything you haven't done many times before during
your driving lessons.
Remember, you're not expected to be
perfect...You're allowed to make up to 15 minor faults...
those not considered to be dangerous to other road
users...and still pass the test.
If you make ANY serious or dangerous
faults you'll fail the test.
I'll give you lots of practise to get you
ready for your test during our lessons together.
Your test will involve normal driving through
the town... on country roads... and on dual
carriageways.
You'll also do some manoeuvres... reverse
parking... reverse around a corner... reverse into a parking
space... turn in the road... hill start... emergency
stop.
At the end of your test your examiner will
ask you to park the car in a convenient place at the
test centre and ask you to turn off the engine. The examiner
will add up your score and either congratulate you for passing
or tell you you've failed.
If you've failed, your examiner will tell
what your faults were and ask you if you want your driving
instructor to listen in so you can practise
them before your next test.
if you've passed...CONGRATULATIONS...your
examiner will give you your pass certificate and will send
off your paperwork to the Driving and Vehicle
Licensing Agency (DVLA) to receive your full driving
licence.
You should receive your full driving license
within 10 working days.
Your pass certificate allows you to
drive your car on your own while you wait for your full
driving licence to arrive.
