Some things you need to
know
before starting your
Driving Lessons in
Shrewsbury
Getting Your Provisional
Licence
As you'll be taking your test in
Great Britain or Northern Ireland you'll need a provisional
license.
You can get
your provisional driving licence from the Driver and
Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)...and the application form
(form D1) is available from your local Post
Office.
You need to be 17 before you can drive a car on the
roads...but you can apply for your provisional
license up to 3 months before your 17th
birthday.
It's important you tell the DVLA about any medical condition
you have ever had, or are suffering from that could affect your
control of your car.
If you have a medical condition which has become worse since
your licence was issued or you develop a new medical condition,
you must inform the DVLA of your condition, as it may affect
your fitness to drive. Failure to do so is a criminal offence
and is punishable by a fine.
Finding Your Driving
Instructor
You need to get yourself an experienced driving
instructor...
OK, I hear you say, why's that?
Well, if you start with your Dad or Mum...Brother or Sister,
or a good friend...Yes, they're good drivers, but I'll bet that
even they confess to having developed a lot of bad habits since
they passed their test.
But, don't get me wrong...you still need your Mum, Dad,
Brother or Sister or good friend...Why? so you can practise all
the good habits you've been given by your experienced
driving instructor.
And, be aware, when you go out for practise with someone
else...make sure they're at least 21 years old and have held,
and still hold, a full UK driving license for three years.
Also, make sure your car has 'L' plates fitted so they can
be clearly seen both on the front and the rear.
You need an approved driving instructor (ADI) right
from the start...someone who's trained long and hard to
learn all there is to know to turn you into a safe, confident,
driver...someone who'll take you from raw beginner to
a driver who anyone will feel safe sitting
beside.
And, an approved driving instructor has 'DUAL CONTROLS'
fitted in the car...this is a HUGE plus helping to keep you
safe as you learn.
